This piece was made in memory of my grandfather who spent his working life repairing clocks and watches.

The thread for the mesh background and the fabric for the clock faces was dyed with the dried flower tops of St. John’s wort.

The mesh background was constructed using lengths of rayon- twisted thread stitched onto heavy duty soluble fabric. The cogs, wheels and borders of the clock faces were cut from craft vilene and painted with acrylics. I machine stitched the Roman numerals on the borders in black thread and attached silk organza as a background for the decorative stitching on the clock faces.  Real ‘hands’ were attached to quilted circles at the clock centres and the piece was finished off with a fringe of pendulums, some real and some cut from vilene and painted to match.
